Promahones
Sculptural installation, three disks, 6m diameter each, made of steel on a rectangular base also made of steel. Apropos the artwork’s first exhibition at the Benaki Museum, Pireos str Annexe, 2014-2015, a series of events took place: the theatre performance The Dead House by Yiannis Ritsos (director: Yorgos Skevas, protagonist: Angeliki Papathemeli, lighting designer: Philippos Koutsaftis) and Dancing with a sculpture, an educational program for children by choreographer Lydia Kapournioti. Subsequently, the installation was placed at the National Archaeological Museum’s courtyard on the occasion of the celebrations for the 150 years since the museum’s foundation. During the vernissage, the Athens Percussion Group presented the percussion piece The Sound of Promahones by Argentinian composer Pablo Ortiz. A large series of images that form the new section Shadows of Promahones followed, that was presented at the On Guard II exhibition at the Eynard School in Aegina, 2016. In 2019, the Sounds and Shadows video was screened at the Castello di san Giusto in Trieste. Promahones also gave rise to and inspired a series of photographs by distinguished professionals.
