“ELLAMPSIS”

… and the souls of the artists will be awakened

… and they will be the visible eyes of a blinded society…

Ellampsis was unveiled in 2019 at the Primordial Future, Matter-Logos-Sound – Part Two: Logos exhibition at the Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin. Subsequently, in the summer of the same year, it was presented at the Cyclades Gallery in Syros as part of a curated overview of the Italian exhibitions trilogy, with the support of the Antonios E. Komninos Foundation. More recently, under the curatorship of Eleni Varopoulou, the work was presented at the Kourd Gallery space during Art Athina 2024, held at the Zappeion Hall.

The work is a wall inscription made from steel, stainless steel, handmade paper, and LED lighting. It measures 275 cm in width, 100 cm in height, and 25 cm in depth. The inscription features a phrase resembling a prophecy. In the exact middle, a crack splits the phrase in two, a lightning bolt from which light emanates.

In his theory of the Mystic Light, Mircea Eliade describes the sudden spiritual illumination as a transformative experience, often likened in many cultures to a lightning strike. This momentary flash symbolizes the awe-inspiring mystery that renews the world and fills the soul with sacred reverence. A momentary initiation, a spiritual transformation, through which a person gains the gift of insight.

In Ellampsis, this profound transformation occurs within the souls of artists, those destined to lead society from darkness to light.

The Megaron Athens Concert Hall, a renowned cultural institution, provides an ideal setting for this work, where artists are promoted, supported and connected with a broad audience.
